UNO/1 & Spacecraft
Twenty years ago, there were few publications or channels that ever mentioned about the ideas or the works of Le Corbusier, the Giant of Architecture. Only through the papers of some predecessors in architecture and the references they cited could we get the access of his thoughts.
As a sophomore student in college, I was eager to learn from this giant. Attempted to trace his thoughts from any writings, I was trying to understand the ration and sensibility that his works ever underlie. I consider this attempt to be a faith that leads me to the stage of the world, and I envisaged that I could also create works that are everlasting and cherished. At then, I borrowed many of his collections that had already been out of print from libraries and Press like crazy, and made hard copies at the printing store. From sheets of papers with smudging graphics and words, I see the outline of a brand new world from the giant’s point of view.
Along with Le Corbusier, Philip Johnson, I.M. Pei, and Carlo Scarpa, as the pioneers of modernism, were all wearing a pair of black-rimmed, round-shaped think glasses, framing their determined eyes and proclaiming the philosophy they believe in. Their eyes are glimmering with sparkles; their domineering passions are tamed by the black frame. They lived in that era, the era that brought innovations.
Round-shaped glasses are like the coronation for designer or architect. Slowly showing its appearance, they inherit the world with the legacy of beautiful things and the ideas that affect the world. This notion is also the spirit and ambition that we want to embody when GreenRoom was established 6 years ago. Upholding this ideal, we started out to design pairs of round-shaped glasses that comprises GreenRoom’s belief and attitudes besides leather work when we first met CLASSICO three years ago. From its appearance, from its geometry, they show the basis of modern science. They demonstrate the front-side beauty of frame shape, and the turning point from the temple to the tip lies the streamlining of sculptures, revealing the order created by our hands.
CLASSICO always completes its works by half-handmade with pure handmade materials, in the manner of paying tribute to the classic. The language from Crafting of an Italian classic brand name “Vespa” has been especially adored and been implied in the spirit of our own brand. Following this, we named this glasses frame “UNO / 1” in Italian which means “the only”. It symbolizes a piece of scout badge, a praised courage, and the proud of the calling.
The leather case we designed for “UNO / 1”: “Spacecraft”, is a sculpture that sits in the Space by metaphors. Users are like floating in the atmosphere that it created. As its name suggests, it presents the design that came from another dimension space, and preserves the storage “Space” and the artistic “Craft”. Users could easily place their glasses in “Spacecraft”. The solid hand sewing and ridges could protect the glasses from the presses coming from the outside appropriately.
GreenRoom makes every effort to extend our limits and to absorb the nurture from the world. We hope that the work from this cooperation project should be able to make (GR X CLASSICO) grow together. We invite you to anticipate the bilateral sharing and the interpretations of the designs by these two brands.
